The high hardness of PCD leads to very low material removal rates (even one ten thousandth of the cemented carbide removal rate). At present, PCD tool sharpening process mainly uses ceramic bonded diamond grinding wheel. As grinding between grinding wheel and PCD is the interaction between two materials with similar hardness, the grinding law is complicated. For high-grain, low-speed grinding wheel, the use of water-soluble coolant can improve the PCD grinding efficiency and grinding accuracy. The choice of grinding wheel binder should be based on the type of grinding machine and processing conditions. Because EDG technology is hardly affected by the hardness of the workpiece being ground, the EDG technique has the advantage of grinding PCD. The grinding of some complex shapes of PCD tools, such as woodworking tools, also places great demands on this flexible grinding process. With the continuous development of electric spark grinding technology, EDG technology will become a major development direction of PCD grinding.
